Keep Making Your Voice Heard

It’s more than disappointing to see the scions of social media arm-in-arm with the new-old president. But the truth is, I have been disappointed with these billionaire white men for a long time.

Meta’s algorithms mean that I am fed content that I don’t want and don’t let me get started about x. These decade of relying social media has made me dependent. A few powerful men get to decide what connections, stories, and points of view get amplified.

I founded Tangled Locks Journal to amplify voices that are often not heard. Most of the media we consume gets us in the heads of the most powerful in our society. We learn to empathize with people of privilege but we remain supporting characters to their stories. In a small way, I want to turn that upside down. At least here.

I believe on of the most important thing we can do is to build our networks and infrastructure in ways that we can exert more control over our connections. I am not closing my social media accounts but I am limiting what I consume. I am becoming mindful of what I am filling my brain with. I am taking back control of all the memes floating in my brain. I am subscribing to newsletters and blogs of writers that I want to hear more from.

Bluesky and Substack give you a bit more control. Your own website will give you even more. Email works too.

If you have a website you want to share, please write it in the comments for our readers.

And please consider subscribing to our e-newsletter. There’s no charge and you will be helping to amplify the voices of independent writers.
