Deserves My Breath

In that body, the thin one, she took drugs, she drank, she burned too many bridges to rebuild, alienated people she once called friends. She’d never get them back, no matter how determined, the opportunities they offered forever lost.

In this body, the large one, she stopped taking drugs, she stopped drinking, she turned into a person even she would hang out with, and others did, happily. They were eager to be around her, to walk along the bridges, maintain them, loiter on them in the rain and the light.

In that body, the thin one, she contemplated and attempted suicide. She nearly experienced divorce. She lost herself by living for others, by doing what she believed they wanted her to do, and it wasn’t enough, because she wasn’t being true, and she almost died.

In this body, the large one, she realized her limitations. She knew when to say NO. She spoke her truth. She suffered a loss that broke her heart, but it also freed her from an immense burden. She ran with the freedom and created a life for herself, one she loved. Finally.

So I ask you… Which body deserves my breath?
