June #abortionstories

Oklahoma passes a law to ban abortion at fertilization and if you think contraception is safe, you should know that many popular birth control methods are considered abortifacients by these far-right extremists. Oklahoma’s law sets the stage for outlawing contraception.

Mitch McConnell and other replications have their sights on a nationwide abortion ban. Even Forbes is talking about it. Laws and systems to track pregnancies are being put in place in Poland. But it couldn’t happen here, right? Far-right Republicans are not above co-opting misogynistic practices in other countries. Healthcare providers have been breaking patient confidentiality to report people who have had miscarriages to the authorities IN THE UNITED STATES. While these cases most often are dismissed, the women serve time. You know who they target, right? Those socially and economically disadvantaged.

I would like to say that there is good news. There isn’t yet. Feel free to comment with some. In the meantime, it would not be alarmist to say, every election is critical to reproductive freedom.

Our #abortionstories are important.

  1. Hello,

I am definitely Pro Choice all the way. Until we stop abuse, date rape, incest, and whatever else crops up to force a woman to choose, women will resume dying from back alley abortions if we reverse Roe vs. Wade.

That said, when I say Pro Choice, I mean the right to abort or to keep the baby. I submitted a piece titled, “Unsolicited Abortion,” written in my first-person sixteen-year-old self. It’s about my parents forcing me to have an experimental, induced-miscarriage abortion at almost five months pregnant—an abortion I did NOT want. I’m wondering if my story wasn’t chosen because it may not exactly support the legal abortion fight.

    Just a thought . . .

    Sincerely,
    Ann Willow

  2. When you say ban contraception, do you mean the abortion pill, Plan B, or something like that? Or do you mean contraception, like flipping birth control pills? Either one is unacceptable, but I need clarity.

      1. Oh dear. This is exactly what I’ve been saying. People won’t care until the same laws affect them in some way.
